I have maintained a full-time private practice for about 40 years, and I have been passionate about cosmetic and restorative dentistry for my entire time in the industry. I served on the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry's (AACD) board of directors and was president of the AACD from 2003 to 2004. I have also been teaching continuing education courses with an emphasis on cosmetic and adhesive dentistry for more than 25 years.
My interest in cosmetic and restorative procedures was sparked with cosmetic composite bonding in the 1970s and transitioned to adhesively bonded porcelain restorations in the 1980s and the 1990s. I enjoy being able to create functional, natural, lifelike smiles to help my patients look and feel their best.
As a product reviewer for Clinicians Report, I have had the unique opportunity to try out and use many different products during the course of my career. I always bench test a new product in the laboratory before using it clinically. When I tested BISCO's Duo-Link Universal™ about 6 years ago, I found that it had all of the properties that I wanted in a dual-cure resin cement. The material flows well and sets in just the right amount of time for me without the need for light activation. However, when quick removal is necessary during a procedure, I can also flash cure the cement with a curing light.
I use Duo-Link Universal in all of my indirect adhesive cementation procedures for which I feel the need for a dual-cure cement. I always use Duo-Link Universal in conjunction with BISCO's All-Bond Universal® adhesive. This cement will always cure completely-even when cementing metal restorations that do not allow light to pass through. BISCO also offers Z-Prime™ Plus for metal and zirconium restorations and Bis-Silane™ porcelain primer to achieve maximum adhesion to the restoration. With Duo-Link Universal, I can cement any dental restoration that benefits from dual curing.
One of the most beneficial features of the material is the setting time. When no curing light is used, the setting time is still short enough to facilitate effective cementation of metal or very opaque restorations. I really dislike waiting on materials to set because I try to be as efficient as possible for my patients and my practice as a whole.
I would recommend this product to clinicians who are thinking of switching to a new cement because it is an excellent product that is manufactured in the United States and has great physical properties. Lithium disilicate or zirconium restorations that are cemented with a protocol using Duo-Link Universal resin cement and BISCO's All-Bond Universal adhesive are highly retentive and durable.
Duo-Link Universal™ adhesive resin cement is specially formulated for cementation of ALL* indirect restorations. Its extremely high degree of conversion in both light- and self-cure modes ensures a strong, long-lasting restoration.
Formulated to allow for quick and easy removal of excess cement
Easily identified on radiographs for quick and effective diagnosis
Low film thickness ensures the restoration is completely seated
Auto-mix dual syringe guarantees a perfect mix, easy placement, and limited waste
* It is recommended to use CHOICE™ 2 for veneer cementation.
