Guiding Leaders Summit Offers Women More Than Just Dental CE
Inside Dentistry provides the latest in endodontics, implantology, periodontics, and more, with in-depth articles, expert videos, and top industry insights.
Stephenie Goddard wants Glidewell Dental's inaugural Guiding Leaders Summit to stand out, but not just for the basic premise that it is exclusively for women. Glidewell's executive vice president envisions a dynamic 2-day event that differentiates itself from other dental conferences in many different ways, from the scope of the topics presented to the overall experience.
"The Guiding Leaders Summit will be different from anything else in dentistry," Goddard says of the event, which will be held April 24-25, 2020, at the Paséa Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach, California. "We are constantly pushing the boundaries to create something unique and different."
The continuing education (CE) courses will cover a wide variety of topics, including pediatric sleep dentistry, implants in the esthetic zone, and the noninvasive smile makeover, while other courses will address business topics and personal well-being. All dental office staff members are encouraged to attend.
"Acquiring the necessary CE credits remains critical for dentists, but a need and a desire also exist for competence and acumen in these other areas," Goddard says. "We want to offer some dental CE that is a bit different and more nuanced, such as education on how to resolve conflicts and have an outward mindset, how to have crucial conversations and foster teamwork, how to reduce stress, how to unlock the power of mindfulness, and more."
The keynote speaker for the summit will be the renowned researcher, lecturer, and author Rella Christensen, RDH, PhD.
"Christensen is an icon in the industry," Goddard says. "We expect her lecture to include the latest in materials science, which is the topic that she is so well known and respected for, but we have also asked her to speak about her own journey as a woman in this industry, so people will hear some details that they might not have heard in the past."
Christensen will be joined by 12 other presenters on the dais. These top industry leaders represent a broad spectrum of areas, ranging from a marketing expert and an emotional intelligence coach to an organizational consultant and an award-winning TV and film director who now specializes in working with female executives and leaders.
Goddard notes that the breakout courses will not require any pre-registration, so attendees can just walk into any that interest them. "You can choose whichever path works best for you."
The summit will include more than just education; another goal is to refresh and rejuvenate the attendees. Glidewell has reserved the entire hotel, so summit attendees will be the only guests, and it is just steps from the beach. Morning yoga sessions will be offered along with networking breakfasts and lunches, there will be a cocktail reception recognizing the first 14 graduates of the yearlong Guiding Leaders leadership development program, and there will also be a booth for attendees to have professional headshots taken.
Goddard says her goal is to continue to grow the summit each year in terms of both attendance and scope. "There is so much untapped potential out there, whether the individual is a dentist, an office manager, or a hygienist," she says. "Creating a platform to identify that untapped potential and help grow it in a new way is what drives me. It is so exciting."
