Carestream Dental’s CS 9600 and CS 8200 3D Family cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) systems have received product certification from the Digital Dentistry Society (DDS), following a comprehensive evaluation process conducted by a panel of international experts in digital dentistry.
According to Carestream Dental, these systems are the first CBCT imaging units to receive certification from the society.
The DDS certification is based on three criteria: manufacturing quality and clinical reliability, innovation and integration into digital workflows, and the presence of supporting evidence in scientific literature.
In the DDS product evaluation report, Prof. Francesco Mangano, president of the DDS Commission, stated: “Innovation is a characteristic of Carestream Dental CBCT systems, and the recent introduction of artificial intelligence-based patient positioning and new algorithms such as MAR [metal artifact reduction] clearly demonstrates the constant improvements these CBCT systems introduce to the market.”
The CS 9600 system, according to Carestream Dental, is designed for practices requiring comprehensive imaging capabilities. It combines five imaging modalities in one system: panoramic, CBCT, optional cephalometric imaging, model scanning, and facial scanning. The company states that it includes artificial intelligence-based positioning tools, an intuitive user interface, and a range of field of view (FOV) sizes to support various clinical needs such as implantology and maxillofacial surgery.
The CS 8200 3D Family is described by Carestream Dental as a compact, four-in-one system that can be configured to include panoramic and CBCT imaging, with optional cephalometric and model scanning capabilities. According to the company, the system is designed for practices seeking high-resolution 2D and 3D imaging in a smaller footprint, offering flexibility for general practitioners and specialists.
Lisa Ashby, CEO of Carestream Dental, commented on the certification: “With its advanced, reliable imaging solutions, Carestream Dental has always been a leader in CBCT technology. This quality stamp from DDS is more than a badge of honor — it’s a validation of the trust the dental community places in our systems every day.”
The certification program is part of the DDS’s mission to recognize digital dentistry solutions that meet high standards for clinical performance and scientific validation.
