Kuraray Noritake Dental has announced the launch of KATANA™ Zirconia ONE For IMPLANT, a pre-sintered zirconia block designed for use with CEREC systems. The announcement was made during the Dentsply Sirona World event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to the company, the new material allows clinicians to fabricate either hybrid abutment crowns or hybrid abutments from a single block. The product is intended to streamline workflows and reduce production time for implant-supported restorations.
KATANA Zirconia ONE For IMPLANT is built with four layers of graduated zirconia designed to reflect natural tooth coloration. The company states that the in-house production of the zirconia powder allows for precise control over grain size and sintering temperature, resulting in consistent performance.
According to the company, the block has a flexural strength of approximately 932 MPa and is suitable for chairside fabrication of screw-retained or two-piece implant restorations. The integrated access hole is compatible with TiBase components. The block is available in two sizes to accommodate different clinical scenarios and access hole diameters.
A video demonstration of the product by Dr. Daniel Vasquez is available here.
“KATANA Zirconia ONE For IMPLANT was created to make implant dentistry simpler and more predictable,” said Dinesh Weerasinghe, PhD, senior technical and marketing manager, dental division, Kuraray America. “With one versatile block, dentists can choose the best approach for each case, whether that’s a hybrid abutment crown or a hybrid abutment, while knowing they’re providing patients with restorations that combine strength, esthetics, and efficiency.”
For straightforward cases, the company recommends the use of hybrid abutment crowns. For more complex situations, such as non-parallel implant placement, a hybrid abutment combined with a separate crown may offer greater flexibility.
According to the company, the block can be used to fabricate a finished restoration in as little as 43 minutes. It is offered in ten VITA classical shades (A1–D4) and is designed to be used with PANAVIA SA Cement Universal using the AC Technique.
