Foundation Nakao for Worldwide Oral Health is inviting dental academics and clinicians to apply for grants from a new round of funding being made available, according to a September 1, 2025, press release from the organization. Applications for this round of funding, which is the seventh round made available by the foundation since its launch in 2018, will be accepted from September 1, 2025, to December 7, 2025.
Projects that are selected will receive up to CHF 50,000/per year (approximately USD 58,000) in funding for a maximum of 2 years and up to CHF 100,000 (approximately USD 116,000) in total. The press release notes that those applying for funding for projects with budgets greater than CHF 50,000 in two years need to submit a separate application for the second year. In addition to funding, projects that are selected will receive wide exposure among dental professionals, the dental industry, and the general public for their studys’ outcomes and achievements.
Foundation Nakao’s founding goal is to improve the oral health, and subsequently the quality of life, of everyone on the planet. To achieve this goal, the organization supports academic research and clinical studies that address key areas of oral health, including minimally invasive dentistry, the preservation of teeth in geriatric populations (eg, the 8020 movement), the prevention of oral frailty, and improving patient education regarding oral health.
“The inspiration for the Foundation came from a topic that is very close to our hearts: the impact of oral health on quality of life,” said Makiko Nakao, president of Foundation Nakao for Worldwide Oral Health, at its official launch in 2018. “My husband and I believe that dentistry has a fundamental role to play in the health and longevity of people around the world. We look forward to seeing this becoming a reality through the activities of the Foundation.”
