Planmeca has introduced the Planmeca Creo® X dental 3D printer—a system developed through sustained engineering refinement and continuous collaboration with dental teams. The device reflects a long-term effort to support clinical efficiency, manufacturing accuracy, and predictable digital workflows.
Originally conceptualized a decade ago, the Planmeca Creo X system has evolved through iterative prototyping and user feedback from dental practices and laboratories. During this period, Planmeca’s in-house engineers focused on practical usability and consistent output quality, aiming to provide a tool that supports dependable daily production.
The Planmeca Creo X builds on the mechanical foundation of the earlier Planmeca Creo® C5, integrating redesigned core components intended to enhance stability, maintain precision, and support cost-conscious operations. The updated structure is designed for environments with high production volumes, with the goal of delivering consistent accuracy across a range of clinical and laboratory applications.
Central to the system is a new chip-on-board (COB) LED light source paired with a monochrome LCD panel. Together, these components achieve a pixel size of 34 microns, further refining the resolution of the previous generation. The printer also incorporates an integrated resin heater to help maintain uniform material performance under varying clinical conditions.
The development team reports that every modification throughout the project was guided by the goal of allowing clinicians and technicians to rely on their equipment while remaining focused on patient care. The “X” designation is described as a marker of both technological progression and the culmination of a decade of design work intended to support dental modeling, splint fabrication, surgical guide production, and restorative applications.
“With Planmeca Creo X, even beginners can start 3D printing with confidence, knowing their printer will meet their expectations and deliver reliable results every time. Reliability was the key factor in the product development, which is why we have ensured the printer is capable of meeting the evolving requirements of various printing materials, both now and in the future. The combination of advanced mechanical components and new optics ensures perfect results every time, guaranteeing reliability even in the busiest environments,” stated Pontus Degerlund, CAD/CAM Director at Planmeca.
