Zahn Dental, the US dental laboratory business of Henry Schein, Inc., has announced the launch of Zirlux® Independence ML, a multilayered zirconia disc manufactured in the United States with imported materials. The material is intended to address laboratory needs for strength, esthetics, and production efficiency within existing digital workflows.
Zirlux Independence ML is engineered to support consistent shade reproduction, multilayer esthetics, and full-disc milling. According to the company, these characteristics are designed to enhance milling predictability and optimize disc utilization.
Key features include:
- Consistent Shades: Shade accuracy across all 16 VITA Zahnfabrik H. Rauter GmbH & Co. KG VITA® shades, plus 0M2, with the goal of reducing remakes and turnaround times.
- Full-Disc Milling Efficiency: Milling performance to the edge of the disc intended to help minimize chipping near the ring and reduce material waste.
- Natural Multilayer Opalescence: A gradient structure with pearl-like opalescence designed to replicate natural esthetics while potentially reducing the need for additional staining and layering.
- Balance of Strength and Esthetics: Incorporates 4Y zirconia technology, delivering reported flexural strength of up to 1085 MPa and 48% translucency, supporting indications such as full-arch bridges and anterior crowns.
“The introduction of Zirlux Independence ML solidifies our commitment to providing dental laboratories with a premium, yet affordable zirconia,” said Rita Acquafredda, President, Global Dental Lab & Prosthetic Solutions, Zahn Dental. “Our lab partners need a zirconia that can easily fit into their existing workflows, helping them improve production and increase their profitability.”
Additional information about Zirlux Independence ML is available through Zahn Dental representatives. The company will also host an educational session at LMT Lab Day in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency on February 20, 2026, titled, “Zirconia Showdown: Which Material Wins in Strength, Esthetics & ROI.”
