The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) has named Krista Paternostro Bower, MPA, CAE, as executive director. She assumed the role Aug. 19, 2026, following a national search conducted by an AACD board-appointed search task force.
Bower brings more than three decades of association and nonprofit experience to the position. A Certified Association Executive since 2008, she has worked in areas including strategic planning, association management, education, credentialing, financial sustainability, governance, and volunteer leadership.
Most recently, Bower served as chief executive officer and executive director of the Society of Dermatology Physician Associates, where, according to AACD, she oversaw membership growth, revenue expansion, and organizational changes.
“I’m thrilled to join the team of the AACD at this exciting and transformative time in its prestigious history,” Bower said. “As a champion of principled leadership, I look forward to working collaboratively with AACD leaders, volunteers, and team to lead with transparency and integrity, driving sustainable growth and creating lasting value for the organization and its members.”
Bower holds a Master of Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University. Her areas of experience include association management, strategic planning, education, credentialing, and volunteer leadership.
She succeeds Dr. Brad Olson, who served as interim executive director during a period of transition for AACD. According to the organization, Olson helped strengthen operations, supported changes within the Academy, and helped guide AACD through its recently concluded Scientific Session. Although his interim appointment has ended, Olson will continue to be involved with AACD and the profession.
As Bower begins her tenure, AACD said it will continue focusing on its mission and its members, including its work in education, Accreditation, professional development, and member engagement.
