Henry Schein, Inc. is marking the 25th anniversary of Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate citizenship program, which supports initiatives focused on healthcare access, community health, professional education, and sustainability.
Formally launched in 2001, Henry Schein Cares has contributed more than $285 million in cash and donated products and collaborated with more than 5,000 charitable partners worldwide. Its programs have also distributed more than 100,000 hygiene kits through the We Care Global Challenge and supported more than 75,000 students globally through the company’s Back to School program.
“Helping health happen has been at the core of our purpose since Henry and Esther Schein founded the Company more than 94 years ago,” said Fred Lowery, Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein. “For the past 25 years, Henry Schein Cares formally brought the philosophy of ‘doing well by doing good’ to life, harnessing the power of partnerships to strengthen healthcare and communities around the world. As we look to the next 25 years and beyond, together we will continue to build on that legacy to help create a healthier future for all.”
Henry Schein Cares currently organizes its corporate citizenship activities around five areas: healthcare access; policies, solutions, and innovation; relationship building; employee engagement; and environmental sustainability.
Henry Schein commemorated the anniversary September 23 during United Nations General Assembly Week with an event in New York City attended by customers, healthcare professionals, nonprofit partners, employees, and other stakeholders. The event also outlined areas of emphasis for Henry Schein Cares in the coming years, including access to care for vulnerable populations, dental-medical integration, prevention and wellness, minimally invasive care, and disaster preparedness.
During the event, Lowery participated in a discussion with Diane Brady, Executive Editorial Director of Fortune, addressing sustainability, philanthropy, partnerships, and the relationship between oral and systemic health.
“As Henry Schein Cares enters its next chapter, we have an opportunity to build upon what we’ve learned while focusing on where we can make the greatest difference,” said David Kochman, Senior Vice President, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Henry Schein. “That means continuing to expand access to care while placing an even greater emphasis on prevention, supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals, and strengthening the partnerships that make lasting change possible. We know that no one organization can do this work alone. By working together, we can help build a healthier and more resilient world.”
Among the programs and partnerships supported by Henry Schein Cares is the American Dental Association Foundation’s Give Kids A Smile® program, which has provided oral health services to more than 10.2 million underserved children since 2003. Other initiatives include Practice Pink®, which has contributed more than $2.1 million to cancer-related causes, and the S.M.I.L.E. Healthcare Pathway Program™, which introduces students to careers in oral health.
The company also supports Special Olympics initiatives addressing barriers to healthcare for people with intellectual disabilities and operates Prepare to Care, its disaster preparedness and response program. Organizations involved in the latter include Americares, Direct Relief, Project HOPE, Project C.U.R.E., and Heart to Heart International.
Employee involvement is another component of Henry Schein Cares. In 2025, more than 3,000 Team Schein Members participated in the company’s seven Employee Resource Groups, and employees contributed more than 6,000 volunteer hours globally.
Environmental initiatives include Henry Schein’s Net Zero 2050 goal and efforts involving renewable energy, supply chain resilience, circularity, and carbon removal. The company has set a goal of sourcing 100% renewable energy by 2030 and reports that it currently achieves 34% through renewable energy certificates. Henry Schein has also partnered with Climeworks Solutions on its first carbon removal portfolio.
“The connection between the health of our planet and the health of our communities is clear, which is why sustaining the planet is an important part of how we think about helping health happen,” said Jennifer Kim Field, Vice President, Chief Sustainability Officer, Henry Schein. “As we look to the future, our focus is on continuing to reduce our environmental impact while working alongside our customers, supplier partners, Team Schein Members, and others across the healthcare ecosystem to drive meaningful change."
