Dentsply Sirona has reported progress toward its sustainability objectives and announced new targets for 2030, marking five years since the introduction of its BEYOND: Taking Action for a Brighter World strategy in 2021. The initiative focuses on three areas: Healthy Planet, Healthy Smiles, and Healthy Business.
According to the company, its sustainability efforts over the past five years have included reductions in greenhouse gas emissions intensity, support for clinical education, workforce safety and pay equity initiatives, and programs intended to expand access to oral healthcare.
“We are proud of what we have achieved through five years of BEYOND and the positive difference we are making for the environment, our people, our business and throughout the industry,” says Tony Johnson, senior vice president, chief supply chain officer and executive sponsor for ESG at Dentsply Sirona. “By making sustainability part of how we serve our customers, we strengthen our business and create long-term value. As we look ahead, we will continue to put our customers at the center of everything we do, while advancing our sustainability ambitions through innovation, efficient digital solutions, reduced packaging waste, extended equipment lifespan through service and repair, while continuing to meet their expectations for quality, reliability and ease of use.”
Among its reported achievements, Dentsply Sirona reduced Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions intensity by more than 30% compared with its 2019 baseline, more than doubling its original 2025 reduction target. The company also reported enabling more than 29 million smiles over five years, exceeding its stated goal of 25 million.
In professional education, Dentsply Sirona reported delivering more than 42,000 clinical education courses during the five-year period. The company also stated that it achieved total average gender pay parity across its global workforce ahead of its 2025 target and maintained that result through 2025.
According to Dentsply Sirona, it met its 2025 workplace safety target two years ahead of schedule and maintained what it describes as top-decile performance in injury and illness prevention through 2025. Through its partnership with Smile Train, the company also reported helping enable approximately 7,000 cleft surgeries across 18 countries since 2021.
For 2030, Dentsply Sirona has established new environmental and social objectives, including reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% compared with a 2024 baseline and using 100% renewable electricity across its manufacturing sites. Additional goals include achieving 30% recycled content across its packaging portfolio and enabling another 30 million smiles by 2030.
“Five years of BEYOND have shown us what sustained action across the business can achieve,” says Tony Johnson, senior vice president, chief supply chain officer and executive sponsor for ESG at Dentsply Sirona. “We have made strong progress against the goals we set for 2025, while improving the data, processes and governance that underpin our sustainability work. Our new 2030 goals build on that foundation. Just as importantly, we want what we learn and achieve within Dentsply Sirona to translate into practical value for our customers and help advance more sustainable practices across dentistry.”
