Dentsply Sirona recently joined TeamSmile and players from the Carolina Panthers for a dental clinic at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Charlotte on 2 December 2021. During the event, children were able to get free dental care and interact with local sporting heroes. Dentsply Sirona has long been committed to ensuring everyone has access to high-quality dental care, setting out ambitious targets for this in its sustainability strategy.
The Charlotte clinic is part of an ongoing partnership between Dentsply Sirona and TeamSmile to ensure that underprivileged children have access to much-needed dental care. More than 200 children got cleaning and work done, including eight children who needed a tooth extraction. A number of Dentsply Sirona employees participated in the event, welcoming the children and keeping them calm and entertained as they waited for their check-ups.
Working together to make children smile
Dentsply Sirona recognizes that oral health is central to every person’s overall health, happiness and well-being.
Dentsply Sirona’s partnership with TeamSmile began in 2017 when the company participated in a local Charlotte event. Since then, Dentsply Sirona has expanded its support to become a national partner, providing financial support, donated equipment and consumables, and on-the-ground volunteer support at events.
In 2021, Dentsply Sirona donated 12 Nupro® Freedom® prophy handpieces to TeamSmile after the organization’s previous set was lost in the mail. These units were set up at all hygiene stations so that all children who visit the clinic can have their teeth polished.
“We are thrilled to be able to partner with Dentsply Sirona, to help thousands of children across the country get access to much needed dental care,” said John McCarthy, Executive Director at TeamSmile. “Dentsply Sirona really stepped up to the plate in 2021 with the donation of the missing handpieces – we couldn’t run our hygiene program without them. With high-quality equipment, partnerships with dental professionals, and participation from local sports teams, we can help make children smile in more ways than one.”
TeamSmile plans to hold another clinic event with the Carolina Panthers in March 2022. As part of its commitment to achieve 25 million smiles by 2025 and in support of its partnership with FDI, the World Dental Federation for the World Oral Health Day, Dentsply Sirona renews its participation and is proud to continue its partnership with TeamSmile.
