MELVILLE, N.Y., Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), the world's largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical practitioners, announced today that Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, was presented with Honorary Fellowship in the International College of Dentistry - USA Section (ICD USA Section), the U.S. Division of the International College of Dentistry (ICD). The ICD is world's oldest and largest international honor society for dentists.
Mr. Bergman was recognized with Honorary Fellowship during the Richard and Barbara Shaffer Convocation Ceremony of the ICD USA Section's 2014 Annual Meeting, Convocation and Dinner Program, held recently at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio in Texas.
The Honorary Fellowship recognizes Mr. Bergman, along with Henry Schein, for outstanding and meritorious contributions to dentistry, including the charitable work done through Henry Schein Cares, the Company's global corporate social responsibility program, to expand access to oral care for the underserved. Mr. Bergman's Honorary Fellowship in the ICD USA Section also grants him Honorary Fellowship in the ICD.
"Honorary Fellowship in the ICD is a prestigious tribute to our Company," said Mr. Bergman. "This recognition is especially gratifying because the ICD shares Henry Schein's commitment to expand access to oral care and education worldwide through its Global Visionary Fund, which very much aligns with the mission of Henry Schein Cares to 'help health happen'."
The ICD Global Visionary Fund (GVF), a tax-advantaged (IRS501c3) charitable fund, was created in 2013 to improve the oral health of the public and enhance the profession of dentistry. GVF provides financial assistance to ICD Fellows and other volunteers doing charitable work, focusing its support on humanitarian dental care projects and continuing dental education initiatives. GVF emphasizes projects that demonstrate the possibility of creating sustainable improvement in oral health in countries around the world.
"For almost a decade, we've been impressed by the tremendous work that Henry Schein and Henry Schein Cares have done in service to organized dentistry and outreach," said Curtis R. Johnson, D.D.S., F.I.C.D., 2014 President, USA Section, International College of Dentists. "The ICD is proud to now recognize Stanley Bergman by inducting him into our institution, as both Henry Schein and the ICD work to have a lasting impact on the oral health of all people."
